Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Series #1)

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Series #1) - Full review here! “Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth.” - Marissa Meyer. I don't know where to start to describe this gripping novel! Mrs. Meyer did a wonderful job twisting a old-school fairytale into something great and well, mature . I must say I am not a fan of fairytales (I know, I'm weird) nor of fairytales retellings. But this was definitely an exception. The world Meyer created was very creative and imaginative. It must have been hard to write a futuristic retelling where cinderella is a cyborg without it sounding like a Star Wars fanfiction. But actually Meyers writing style and care of details pulls you in the story and makes the world in which Cinder lives really realistic. One thing I always care about in a novel is whether it's fast paced or not, and Cinder was perfectly paced without rushing into the story and missing out important details. Now give me a minute to fangirl over Kai and thank Meyer she didn't portray him as the can't-do-wrong-prince-charming kind of guy. He is just a normal teenager with all the advantages and disadvantages that come with adoloscence. He's not too good to be true, he's realistic. And definitely my favourite character. As to Cinder, I love her sense of humor, which of course reflects back to that of Meyer's. Cinder has gone through so much and that made her character mature, responsible and able to take care herlself. She was really likeable. I'd recommend this book for those who like fairytales retellings, and those who'd want to try something new in the YA genre.
